West Lake
West
Lake, an alluring lake in China. Locals claim the lake glows when the
Sun shines on it. A famous poet named Su Dongpo would write poems about
the lake. He would write about how romantic the lake was at sunset or
how the lake makes you forget about the pain you experience in life. He
always talked about the lake’s beauty.
The
lake is 2 miles long and 1.7 miles in width. The depth of the lake is
about 7.5 feet. The lake is not that deep compared to most lakes, but
you can still drown in the lake if your not too careful. Mountains
surround the lake on three sides. The grass and trees are mostly green
in color. But, they can sometimes be a red, orange, or yellow in color.
There is an island in the center of the lake. It is called Solitary
Hill. There is also three man made islands on the west side of the lake.
The three man made islands are called Lesser Paradise Island, the
Mid-lake Pavilion, and the Ruangong Islet.
There
is a snake legend with West Lake. It is an old legend. It is about a
love story between Bai Suzhen and Xu Xian. Bai Suzhen was a white snake
spirit and Xu Xuan was a man. They fell in love. They talked to each
other on a boat. They decided to get married shortly after. Then, there
was an evil monk who got jealous. He wanted to ruin the love, so he
decided to put Xi Xian in jail. The white snake spirit tried to save her
husband but failed. She was aided by her sister Xiao Xing the second
